Looking for a unique birthday party for your Eco-friendly child? Have a GREEN-themed kid's party. This is such a good idea to get kids more involved in the idea of being environmentally conscious and having fun.
Some ideas:
1. Use recycled paper for the invites and make them yourselves! Make it simple and clean.
2. Decorations can be made from items around house. You are going to call that paper towel roll trash? No way, paste some colorful scraps of paper and ribbon on it and make a centerpiece. Or paint a paper towel roll and then cut into a spiral and punch a hole in one end and tied in a piece of string and wah-la, a hanging thingie. Be creative. Look for things you can re-use to decorate with. Use reusable table cloths as well. It doesn't have to all match, once you throw some color around it all blends in anyway.
3. As for eating supplies, either purchase all green colored plates, cups and napkins (if you can get recycled paper ones, great) otherwise, just use your own plastic washable plates.
4. Craft Activities:
--Have the kids make crafts out of old items such as toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes, baby food jars, and cereal boxes. Kids would have a blast with a table full of this stuff, glue and scissors. They could make a giant sculpture of sorts or make fun little animals or monsters out of them.
--Make a windmill to talk about wind energy
--Other fun stuff such as making twig baskets, potato stamps, clay pots, a nature book (a nature walk in the backyard with items laid around for them to put in the book)
5. Game ideas:
--Try games such as sorting the recyclables from the non-recyclables. Put a bunch of things such as cardboard, glass, plastic, etc. together and let them sort them. Show them that there are different codes on the bottom to tell you whether they are recyclable.
--Take the kids to a park area and make a game of "who picks up the most trash." It may not sound fun to the adults, but kids actually love to help and with the whole theme of the party being "earth friendly" they will enjoy the idea of doing it together.
--Another nice interactive idea if it is nice outside is to plant a garden. Kids really "dig" this!
-- If the weather is not so nice, make up a cool game like wheel of fortune using all words like: compost, recycle, energy-efficient, nature, planet, pollution, organic (make your own game spinner and then all you do is write boxes for the words on paper)
6. Great favor ideas: gift trees, balls in the shape of the Earth, green tote bags (to use at the store when food shopping or toy shopping), a bag of seeds for planting.
7. As far as gifts, a couple of options here. One, maybe asking for donations in the name of some environment protection foundation in leiu of gifts. There are a ton of them here. Or, if they are bringing gifts, you can request that they are wrapped in old newspaper or brown paper bags.
